Before my week stay in Turkey I thought that this charming country is full of moustached fat men, camels and strict Islam rules, too. I will be honest with you, I never wanted to go to Istanbul before. Responses to my journey to Turkey were monotonous. Prejudices like they will change you for a camel or do not drink tap water became boring for me.
When we went out into the streets, I knew that Istanbul is a place where dreams come true. Everyone can have a slice of the action. You simply cannot miss beautiful nature, majestic shopping centres, fascinating historic monuments... I might forget names of mosques, streets or people, but I will never forget the atmosphere which hangs in the air. I sometimes want to have at least a little of their dynamic when they want to clean your shoes in the street, when they are stopping buses on the road, when they live.
The Turks are wild and spontaneous. They dance as if nobody was looking at them, they sing as if nobody was listening to them and they live as if it was a last day in their life. Christanity means for Slovak people one Sunday hour in a church or a cross hanging on the wall. But Islam for Turks means the way how they behave, how they live. In spite of their spontaneous way of life, their school system is very strict and everywhere is tight security. But nothing is perfect.
I am very thankful to this project for a chance to discover different culture and find new friends from European countries.
