Review of book – The Godfather by Mario Puzo

This book tells the story of family organized crime on 1940 in New York, which revolves aroud the Corleone´s family.Don Vito Corleone is the head of Mafia „family“ in NY City.  He has got 4 children –Santino „Sonny“ , Frederico „Freddy/Fredo“, Michael and daughter Constanzia „Connie“.

He has also got an adoptive son Tom Hagen. Problems arised when a gangster Solozzo announces his intentions to start selling drugs all over the NY.Don Corleone hate drugs, so he refuse Solozzo´s offer about it.

He has his own business with hotel and gabling. Don is shot by Solozzo´s men. Sollozo tries to make deal with don´s oldest son Sonny. When Michael finds what happened he kills Sollozo and his venal police chief McCluskey. He must flees to Italy.

In NY is big war between 5 biggest mafia families and Sonny is murdered. After that Don concludes a peace agreement. Don died in his garden and new Don is his son Michael. Michael avenges he killes heads of 5 mafia families and he becomes leader of the most powerful family in NY. The three main charakcters are Don Vito Corleone and his sons Sonny and Michael.

Don Vito Corleone – the head of Corleone family, familiarly known as the godfather. He was born in Sicília in village like Vito Andollini. After arrival to the USA he changed his surname to Corleone like asociation to his home, where he was forced to flee. In new wolrd his way up to head one of the biggest mafia groups. After the assassination attempt left the family son Michael.

Michael Corleone – the youngest son of Vito Corleone. Despite the protest, the family enlisted during WW II. in the Army. After his return he wanted to distance himself from the family business, but the attempted murder of his father wouldn´t let him. After the murder Sollozzo and McCluskey had to go into exile in Sicily. Later he became the successor to his father and took over the leadership of the family. 

Santino „Sonny“ Corleone – the oldest son of Vito Corleone. Great womanizer with volatile and violent anture. From his youth he exhibited his criminal talents, when it participated in the robbery. As the eldest son had his father to assume the position of head of the family. However, he fell into the trap and on the highway toll was murdered by killers competitive group.

This book is one of my favourite books. You can read  it repeatly and  it never weary you.
