Communication
· Communication is very important for us; it is the key to understanding
· we have many possibilities how to communicate
o face to face conversation – we can use gestures, facial expression, eye contact, we can react immediately – the advantage is that we can see who are we talking with
o telephone – we can change the tone of our voice, but we can´t see who are we talking to, so we can´t see his gestures and facial expressions
o letters, email, icq – written form of communication, the advantage is, that we have enough time to figure out what we want to write
o sign language – the way how to communicate with deaf people, with the symbols and signs that are created with our hands and face
 
Languages
· languages are the key to communication and communication is the key to understanding
· our language is very important for us, it is the part our identity and it characterizes us
· using a language is a evidence of our humanity, because only humans can speak
· each group of humans that decides to live together develops its own native language, so our native language express where do we come from
· Conquerors understood how important the native language is, so they often tried to conquer people by destroying their language. (For example Nazis were spreading German language in our country)
· There are almost 7000 languages in the world, the most widely used is English (but there are also various forms of English language, for example there are differences between American and British English in pronunciation and spelling)
· Languages are divided into language families – for example English language and Czech language belong to Indo-European languages, and families are dividend into branches – English language belongs to Germanic branch, Czech language belongs to Slavonic branch.
 
Travelling
We have a lot of ways in which we can travel. We can travel on the land, on the water and in the air. We can choose which mean of transport we will use. Each way has advantages and disadvantages. I would like to describe the most used means of transport…
Traveling by plane
· advantages: very fast, used on a long distances (when we are travelling abroad), it is the safest way of travelling
· disadvantages: the air-tickets are quite expensive; you don´t have much space for yourself in the plain, so it can be little uncomfortable when you are flying several hours; some people afraid of flying
· I would like to describe the departure from airport, because it´s a little more difficult than other departures:
o when we arrive at the airport, we can look at the departure board to see the number of our flight, the time of departure and destination
o the we go to the check-in desk, to weigh our luggage – we can take about 20 kilos, if it is more, we have to pay for excess weight
o they will check our ticket and they give us a boarding card with the number of our seat
o then we  go to passport control, our passport is checked
o then we walk through security frame which can detect metal objects like guns
o after this we can go to the departure lounge, where we wait for our flight
· Arrival
o when the plane lands, we go to terminal building to the baggage reclaim (the place where we collect our luggage)
o we go through customs, and if we have some goods to declare, we have to pay for it
 
Traveling by train
· Advantages: trains are fast and comfortable, you have enough space for yourself, you can have some meal in restaurant car, you don´t have to worry about traffic jams
· Disadvantages: the tickets are quite expensive, trains can be delayed and overcrowded, so if don´t book your seat in advance, it can happen that you will stand all the journey
 
Traveling by car
· Advantages: it´s fast, comfortable, you can choose your own way, you can choose the time of your departure
· Disadvantages: the petrol is quite expensive in these days, and cars are emitting gases which are polluting the air
 
Traveling by municipal transport
· used within the cities
· we can travel by tram, bus, trolley or we can use underground (only in big cities)
· disadvantages: the tickets are getting more and more expensive, there are often traffic jams in the city, the trams often broke down (especially when you are in a hurry J), the trams are overcrowded and smelly, the people are annoying and noisy
· advantage: it doesn´t pollute air as much as cars, more ecological
 
Media
· TV – there are many channels which provides various programs, we can watch current affairs, films, series, game shows, soap opera, talk show, sport program, documentary program…
· Internet – system which is connecting millions computers in the world, it enables a communication between computers that aren´t physically connected. When we are connected to the internet, we can use search engines like Google or Yahoo to find every kind of information.
· Press
o  we can divide press according to its periodicity – there are dailies, weeklies, mothlies…
o There are many kinds of magazines – for women, news, comics, sport…
o Types of newapapers: national x local; tabloid x serious; morning x evening
