Education

Education is really important these days, because if you want to suceed in our high-developed society, you need a good education.

1.What types of schol do we have in our country? What is typical for them?

better equipped, better attitude to students(prístup), they have uniforms, get higher level of education, punishment(tresty).

Private schools – are financed by parents – they have to pay fees.

Church schools – are financed by church.

 
  • state schools - they don't charge any fees for tuition because states schools are financed by state, don´t wear uniforms but abroad they have uniforms. Can be: co-educational and separated

2.Education in Slovakia has these stages(fázy):

  1. PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATION (predškolské vzdelávanie) – it includes kindergardens – from 3 to 6 age. Children can there play, eat, sleep, sing, dance, watch TV, listen fairytales,

learn basic informations – colors, body, nature, start to learn som foreign language, go out, learn short rhymes and songs, learn hygiene habits: clean teeth, take of clothes, tidy up shoes

  1. PRIMARY SCHOOLS(základné školy) – from 6 to 15 age.

Primary schools are divided in two levels:1. From the first class to fourth

  1. From the fift to ninth class

The children at primary schools study these subjects: mathematics, physics, Slovak language, foreign language, geography, history and so on. They get basic primary education. In the ninth class you write special test from Slovak language, Math and foreign language. Then you have to send application form and do an entrance exams to get to secondary school.

  1. SECONDARY SCHOOLS(stredné školy) – it is usually from 16to 18 or 19 age.

We have many types of secondary schools: -grammar schools - preferred for university

-special schools (pedagogical, business academy, music and art schol, technical, nursing school

-vocational schools (Learn their students for practical jobs for example to become: a shop assistant,a plumber, a builder)

To complete secondary education you have to pass the final exam – finally graduation in the last level. It has 3 parts: written test, spoken and practical exam. When you finish finally exam you get School Learning Certificate.

  1. UNIVERSITIES, COLLEGES – If you pass the entrance exam and test, you can go to university. After 3 years of study you have Bacalar´s Degree, then after next 2 years of study when you write thesis(diplomová práca) and pass state exams you have Master´s Dagree. Then you can also have Doctor´s Dagree.

3.Speak about organisation of the schol year, holidays, schol trips, excursions, courses, timetable, breaks, subjects, exams, etc.

The schol year in Slovakia starts on the first of September and finish the last day of June. We have a few holidays during the school year. We have Summer holiday(2months), Autumn holiday(jesenné prázdniny-5days), Winter holiday(2 weeks), Half-term holiday, Easter holiday. During the schol year we have some specia events – for example: sport events, schol trips, Teacher parent meeting (rodičovské združenie), graduation balls(stužkové slávnosti). We go with our teachers to excursions - for example from Pedagogy, History, Slovak language.. In every school are courses for example: english, first-aid, ski, swim, hiking and computer course. The first lesson starts at 8:00 and the last lesson finish about 2 o'clock. We have usually 6 or 7 lessons a day. The lessons are 45 minutes long. Between the lessons we havebreaks which are 5,10,20 minutes long. Students usually eat, go to toilet, chat on internet, learn, write,copy homeworks, move to other classrooms, write cribs(ťaháky), go to snackbar, go to library, sing songs, listen music, read magazines,books.

Subjects which are taught at school during school year are: Math,Slovak language, Foreign languages, Psychology, Arts, Music, PE, Practise, Biology, History, Social education, Religious education(náboženstvo), Chemistry, (CINIOS-občianská náuka), Ecology, Fyzic, Computer Science, Geografy.

These subjects are divided in 3 groups: OBLIGATORY (povinné), ELECTIVE (voliteľné), VOLUNTARY (nepovinné).

In every school are also after school activities - for example sing in choir, play basketball/volleyball.

4.Describe teacher´s qualities, attitude(postoj) to work, students, conditions at schol/class:

Teachers and students should accept each other. Teachers should be fair but strict, prepare students well for exams, listen to the pupil\'s ideas, be able to accept criticism, take an interest in the problems of the pupils, know the subject well, be prepared to admit(uznať) that he/she doesn\'t know all the answers, stimulate pupils, have a sense of humour, be a model for pupils, have good discipline.Teacher should be prepared and organized. They should be in their classrooms early and ready to teach. They present lessons in a clear and structured way(viesť vyučovanie jasným a štrukturovaným spôsobom). They should ask questions frequently to make sure the students understand. They should keep students motivated with varied, lively demonstrations. Good teachers should form strong relationships with their students and show that they care about them as people. Great teachers should be masters of their subject matter.Great teachers should communicate frequently with parents. Teachers should have positive and right attitude(postoj) to work.

Ideal teacher should be nice,with a sense of humor, honest, fair, sometimes friendly, good actors, calm, patient, enthusiastic, clever, intelligent, reasonable, understanding, but strict and demanding.

5.What are your un/favourite school subject, memories, why?

My favourite subject is Biology, because the topics are very interesting and I am always amazed by the way our organs and tissues work together. I'm interested in new knowledge about human body, but also about animals and plants. And our teacher has interesting lessons.

6.Describe your school and classroom into details:

Our school is very huge historical building with big floors and windows. School has 4 floors: 1.Basement, 2.Ground floor, 3.The First floor, 4.The Second floor.

1.Basement- there is library, lockers for students, snackbar, mirror, small canteen(jedáleň), boiler room(janitor-školník), work shop(dielňa), computer class room, music classroom, banches(lavičky).

Between basement are steps, gym - before gym is changing room. Next to our school is the second gym which is new and bigger.

2.Ground floor-there is head´s office(riaditeľňa), deputy office(kancelária zástupkine), common room(zborovňa), administrative rooms, caretaker´s(vrátnica), teachers offices(kabinet), toilets,wash basine, hallway(chodba), baskets, big timetable, notes, information boards, plants, armchairs, special classrooms - arts classroom, drama classroom, language lab, cabinets(skrine).

3.The First floor and 4.The Second floor: are similar. There are classrooms, teacher´s offices, long hallways, benches for sitting, plants, pictures, info boards, cabinets, toiletes, special classrooms.

Rooms: there are desks which are usually in 3 rows(rady), chairs, aisle(ulička), teacher´s desk, blackboard/whiteboard (whiteboard marker - fixka), cloth (handra na zotieranie), spongs, chalk(krieda), decorations, baskets, audio-visual aids(pomôcky audiovizuálne)- projector, CD player, videorecorders, lamps, speakers(rozhlas), walls, windows.
