The U.S. system of Government is based on the connstitution.
The political system consist of:
The congress of U.S.:
- represents the Legislative Branch. It has the power to create laws.
- members are elected every two years, but can be reelected for several times
- members have to be citizens of the states
- each state has members according to its population
The Senate
- consist of 100 members, two members from each state
- members are elected every six years, but they can be reelected for several times
- S. senators must be at least 30 years of age
- the Vice president of the U.S. manage the Senate
- must confirm the President’s judicial appointments
Two political parties
- The Republican Party and the Democratic Party
President
- President and his cabinet represents the Executive Branch.
- President has to be at least 35 years old, a citizen of the U.S.
- has lived in the U.S. for at least 14 years
- can be reelected for the second term
- to be successful, a candidate for the presidency must get 270 votes
- the U.S. president is one of the most powerful presidents in the world
- he is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, appoints many government leaders, has authority to sign or veto laws passed by Congress
- He must rely on a group of advisors, called the cabinet
The Judicial Branch is represented by the supreme Court and other federal courts. It has the power to dismiss or reverse laws
The capital of the U.S. – Washington, D.C. – is the seat of the American Congress and of the White House – the residence of the President.
