My Homeland – Slovakia – sloh

Slovakia is a country in the central Europe. There live about 5 milion people. It borders to the states as Czech republic, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary and Austria. The capital city of Slovakia is Bratislava. Bratislava is the political, cultural and economic centre of Slovakia. It´s the seat of the Slovak president and the parlament. The president of Slovakia is Ivan Gašparovič. The prime minister is Robert Fico. The National council consists of 150 members and ministers and members of the National Council are elected by citizens of Slovakia for 4 years. In 863, Cyril and Metod came to the Great Moravian Empire.

The larger towns of Slovakia include Košice, Nitra, Trenčín and Žilina. Slovakia features interesting nautral landscapes, mountains, medieval castles and cities, deep caves, folk architecture and ski resorts. Most famous castles are Bojnice, Spiš Castle, Devín Castle and Trenčín Castle. The longest river in Slovakia is Váh. Danube is the largest river flows trough Slovakia. In the High Tatras we can find many lakes, for example: Štrbské Pleso and Popradské Pleso. The largest dams on the river Vah are Liptovská Mara and Šírava. The highest peak in High Tatras is Gerlach peak witch and altitude 2655m. I think, the most famous atractions for tourists, besides High Tatras are spa resorts in Slovakia.

We are country which is famous for its termal resources and many aquaparks: in Poprad, Bešeňova. Our history is interesting too. We have many old castles and historical buildings. Tourist in Košice have to visit The Cathedral of St. Elizabeth because its a dominant building in Košice. I think, we are a very interesting country for tourist and maybe in the future will be on of the most visited country, because we have a potencial but we have to prefer our country more.

The traditional Slovak meals are gnoochi with sheep cheese and „pirohy“. Typical alcoholic drinks are juniper gin and beer. The Slovaks keep their folklore traditions throught traditional costumes, songs and dances. Typical songs of Slovakia are folk songs. The Slovak hero from history as Janošik.
