Pictures

Look at the pictures and identify the services. Which of them do you use?

I can see different types of services in the pictures.

Picture 1 (masáž)

In the first Picture there is massage. I don´t take massages regularly but I know that it´s very healthy and you feel very well.

Picture 2 (automechanik)

In the second Picture there is a car mechanic repairing the car. I don´t have a car but my dad uses this type of services quite often.

Picture 3 (poštár)

In the third Picture there is a postman. He delivers letters, postcards and parcels. He goes from house to house every morning. I don´t write letters because I use the Internet to send e-mails to my friends.

Picture 4 (kaderník)

In the last Picture there is a hairdresser. He is making a new hairstyle for the woman. I go to the hairdresser regularly to have my hair cut and coloured.

2 Speak about different services and crafts and their influence on our lives. Do they make your life easier? In what way?

 I think that services make our life easier. In fact most people can´t imagine life without mechanics, hairstylists, beauticians, fitness trainers etc.

The quality of services has improved. In cities and villages you can find all kinds of services and craftsmen such as: woodworkers, carpenters, plumbers, shoemakers, painters, tailors, photographers etc.

In towns there are also cleaning facilities. You can bring there clothes that mustn´t be washed. E.g. coats, jackets, suits etc.

If you need to have your shoes repaired you must go to shoemaker. We call a repairman if our TV, fridge or washing machine is broken. At the optometrist´s  we can buy new glasses or have the old one fixed. If our car breaks down we must go to a mechanic. Sometimes we need window cleaners, garden designers, lawyers or real estate agents.

Describe the bank and postal services. Will the post services be replaced by the Internet?

Post Almost everybody uses the services of the post office. The post distributes letters, postcards, parcels etc. We can use postal services to send money, buy lottery tickets, pay our bills. Nowadays in the time of the Internet less and less people use postal services. Via the Internet we can send emails, book tickets, do shopping, call people. But if we order something from the e-shop we still need a postman to deliver the parcel.

Banks  provide financial services for people. We can pay for goods and services in cash or by bank card or via the Internet banking. People have their accounts in the bank and they get an interest for it. We can deposit or withdraw the money. Many people use ATM (bank machines) to take off money whenever they need it.

If we need to borrow money, they may give us a loan or mortgage to buy a house or flat.

What services women/men use more often?

Many women use regularly the services of hairdresser. They have their hair cut, style, trimmed, coloured, washed etc. Then the women go to the beauty parlor/salon for facelifting, make-up, manicure, pedicure, massage etc.

Both women and men like fitness centres and use the services of fitness trainers and wellness centres.

If you need to have your clothes made you must go to tailors – men or dressmakers – women.

We also use the services of travel agencies, hotels, restaurants, bars, libraries.
