Clothes and fashion have always been important for people. Is not only way of dressing but also a big business. Fashion designers, models, managers, dress-makers try to make big money with fashion. Today fashion is changing faster than before. New trends, new styles, new materials come in. In different places are different styles that the famous fashion designers (Calvin Klein, Versace, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana etc.) design and their fashionable trends are imitated all over the world. The biggest centres of fashion are Paris, London, New York, Milan. The most of young girls want to be models because they love everything about fashion and they want to be famous.

Fashion styles change often. Women started to shorten their skirts and mini-skirts were very popular for long time. Narrow trousers were replaced by wide trousers and flat shoes by high-heeled shoes. Nowadays we can recognize that fashion which was a few years ago is coming back.

Fashion concerns not only clothes but also hair style, make-up, and accessories, such as shoes, handbags, gloves, belts, hats, scarves (šály), ties, jewelleries or glasses. These products complement clothes. There are clothes for special occasions, for concerts theatre, balls, fancy dress balls, for sport,..

Clothing today consists of many parts. We can often have up to ten pieces on. Of course that depends on the weather. Climate we are living in has four different seasons. And that means there are seasonal clothes. Of course you can not wear winter clothes in summer as well as you can not use summer clothes for winter.

We can differentiate four types of clothes.
I will start with summer clothing. It is usually very hot in the summer so you need light and comfortable clothes. Women wear short skirts and tops or dresses. Men usually wear some shorts and a t-shirt or a short-sleeved shirt. Another thing in summer is wearing swim suits. Nowadays there are so many different types from bikini to bathing trunks. It is very important because in summer you spend a lot of time on the beach and it is important how you look. To sum up, in summer all you need are simple light clothes. As the weather changes and its getting cold outside the clothing has to change too.
In autumn we usually wear trousers or jeans that are easy to upkeep. But it is also important to have a coat or a jacket because it often rains.

In winter you need clothes that can keep you warm and dry even if it snows outside and the air temperature is bellow zero. That means you need coat or jacket to protect you and a warm sweater. You also need warm underwear and some knee-socks. It is also good to have a pair of gloves and some cap and a muffler. Spring clothing is more or less the same as autumn.

People have different attitudes of fashion. Some are different, they do not care what they wear, others especially women are very choosy and particular about what to wear and like to spend a lot of money on clothes. Some people buy ready made clothes, others prefer to have theme made to measure or buy them at second-hand shops, some have excellent taste in dress and are always dressed perfectly, others are slovenly in dress.

Each person has his/her own style and taste. We will scarcely (sotva, ťažko) find two individuals who agree on every detail of their dress. It is well-known that the character of people is reflected also by the manner of their dressing and by their overall appearance. It isn’t of course a hard-and-fast rule. Each person has his own style. Everybody wants to look good. Some people, especially women, spend a lot of time choosing their clothes and they spend a lot of money on clothes – fashion is their big hobby. But others do not mind what they wear and they wear clothes which they like.

Uniforms are worn particularly by professionals such as the police, the armed forces, health workers, sometimes workers of a certain firm. It is still a tradition in some schools in Britain (mostly private ones) to wear a school uniform. It usually consists of a white shirt and grey or dark trousers and a dark sweater or blazer with a school badge on the breast pocket and perhaps a cap (for younger boys). Unlike the boys who do not mind wearing uniforms because they do not differ very much from ordinary clothes, the girl’s dress since it consists of a plain coat, a blouse and a skirt in some dark colour, such as grey, navy blue or brown.
