Communication

Communication is the act of exchanging thoughts, ideas, messages or information through speaking, writing, signals or even sounds.

Mainly, two forms of communication are used.

Verbal communication is spoken language. The spoken word has usually face to face character, which may allow the speaker to ask questions or be questioned. In verbal communication stress, tone, and the modulation of the voice is used in order to express different meanings. Gestures and mimes also play their part in communication, they are used to add intensity to the speech and also express emotions.

Written Communication requires more thoughts and detailed planning and is primarily explained in more formal terms, the ideas are structured in more complicated ways and the organization with well-suited examples are included. In order to fulfill its purpose this type of communication needs the use of right words, sentence structure and correct grammar. Our ideas have to be expressed clearly, as there is no possibility of reexplanation.

In many cases, the communication itself doesn’t end like it is supposed to. Miscommunication occurs, whenever someone hasn’t organized his speech well enough, the exchanged information forms a mixture and is hard to make understandable thought out of it. To avoid miscommunication is to firstly, plan your speech into points, so that it will be hard for you to get lost in it and develop it using simple but practical and appropriate language.

Nowadays, we can’t imagine our lives without computers. They have become modern communication partners for many people. However in past, people used non-verbal type of communication, everything changed with the invention of printing a written text which was easily spread among people.

I think we are so closely connected to technology that getting rid of mobile phones, computers, tablets as sources of information and communication will be even harder for us in the future. Even worse, we will be connected so tightly to these devices that putting them away from our hands will feel like a punishment. This trend can be seen even now, when people meet less often, instead of that they phone each other, get e-mails, watch TV, and that is not the essence of communication.

I dare to say, that I am a good listener and communicator when I am caught in an interesting dialogue. It gets problematic when the main point of the speech is something my thoughts are not involved in. That mostly ends up with me, not paying attention. Even though, I know that people find it rude, I have trouble with focusing on something I am not really interested in.

As for myself, I am satisfied with the traditional ways of exchanging my thoughts and feelings. And I would highly recommend everyone else to do the same, to prevent the collapse of human values.
