Life in the Future

Life in the Future

If we compare the life in the 21st century with the life in 20th century, the result will be amazing. Even though, we are speaking about decades, the changes the life has undergone during these years cannot be unseen. The same destiny will be met by every civilization or age to come. Some people call the process of change progress, while the other half believes that we are on the right way to self-destruction.

Even though we do live in a modern era, being surrounded by technology, there still hasn’t been a reliable future teller – a machine, or a man- to say what is up to come. This way, we cannot get rid of the thought of what will come next and we are only left to wonder and wander through our lives. As a kid and boy at the same time, I have always imagined myself in a flying car making my way through the skyscrapers floating in the air. This imagination has always made me proud, not only of myself of course, but mankind as a whole. The simple thought of the process from a 4 wheel car, to a personal flying sting never stops to amaze me. Although, flying cars are still nowhere to see, it still brightens my future views just to see the new technology bursting from each and every corner.

Sad to say, my childish views faded away, when I realized the state of today’s world. New technology is not everything that sneaks upon us whenever we go. Greenhouse effect, the melting of the ice, smog, oil smudges, these are only few world wide problems, thanks to which, all of the living beings on our planet are on the verge of extinction. The fact that we have reached beyond our very limits, and still are not able to properly deal with these difficulties is the reason, why the future tellers might not occur, ever. The destiny that we are yet to fulfill is a cup of tea which could eventually destroy the life in the future.

A cup of tea which I love to drink is the one I drink when I watch my favorite cartoon, Futurama. The reason why Futurama is so relevant to this concrete topic is because it follows the story of a man, frozen for 1000 years and then awakened in the year of 3000. The cartoon as a whole is a must see for everyone, but what I especially like about Futurama, is the humorous depiction of the future problems of mankind. It shows us how people, will become the slaves of their previous actions and furthermore, the slaves of the technology and robotic machines they invented. Selfishness, the wealthy life of high society, money, and influence, are characteristic for the most powerful 1% of the people living in the future.

The problems of life in the future are so authentically described in Futurama, I dare to say that I often get the shivers when I see something shocking, thankfully it is all covered in humor and positive thinking. And so are my future plans and hopes. I am sure, that our life will change and we will have to be ready to deal with things, which were caused by our predecessors. It may sound unfair, but the sooner we realize the importance of change-over, the brighter our future will be.

As for myself, the only thing that truly made me feel scared and sad at the same time was the cancel of my favorite show, not the futuristic visions. In addition, the future awaits us all and cannot be evaded, and as always, it is only up to us to decide if we want to live happily or happily ever after.
