Being a teenager is a beautiful time of our lives. It is the most enjoyable period, as we have minimum responsibilities and our only duty is attending school. We can do almost anything we want, except breaking the law.

Being a teenager offers an enormous number of opportunities, such as going to the cinema, attending parties, and participating in sports. However, some teenagers choose a negative path in life. Their free time activities involve drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and taking drugs. I believe that they have so much freedom that they don’t know how to use their free time wisely.

Teenagers often believe that they know everything and that their opinions are the best. However, parents always want what is best for us, so we shouldn’t argue with them. A good relationship involves discussing problems openly. Unfortunately, some parents only try to solve issues by screaming.

On the other hand, the relationship between teenagers and their peers is often better. We spend most of our leisure time together, and friends are always there for us to talk to about our problems and feelings. They have a significant influence on our daily lives.

Many teenagers live only for the present and do not care about their future. Their attitude towards life is simple; they want to be different and are trying to find themselves. However, I believe they should change their attitudes and start caring more about their future lives.

Čo je opinion essay?

Opinion essay je slohový útvar, v ktorom vyjadruješ svoj názor na nejakú otázku a podporíš ho argumentmi. Dôležité je, aby bol text prehľadný, logicky usporiadaný a aby si použil vhodné spojovacie výrazy (linking words).

V takomto type slohu nesmieš len opísať tému, ale musíš jasne ukázať, čo si myslíš ty – In my opinion… I believe that… From my point of view…

Štruktúra opinion essay (basic structure)

1. Introduction – Úvod

V úvode krátko predstavíš tému a naznačíš svoj názor. Nemal by byť príliš dlhý (3–4 vety).

2. Body – Jadro (2–3 odseky)

Každý odsek (paragraph) rozvíja jeden hlavný argument. Začni ho jasnou vetou a potom ju vysvetli a uveď príklady.

• Secondly, … / Another important point is that … – ďalší argument
• For example… / For instance… / This can be seen when… – príklad

Môžeš pridať aj protichodný názor (the opposite view) a zdvorilo s ním nesúhlasiť:

• On the other hand, it could be said that…, but…

3. Conclusion – Záver

V závere nezavádzaš nové argumenty. Stručne zopakuješ hlavné myšlienky a ešte raz vyjadríš svoj názor.

Typické chyby pri písaní An Opinion Essay

• Chýbajú odseky – celý text je jeden blok. Vždy rozdeľ sloh na úvod, 2–3 odseky v jadre a záver.
• Príliš veľa „I think“ – striedaj výrazy: I believe, In my opinion, From my point of view…
• Slovosled a vynechané podmety – v angličtine musí byť v každej vete podmet: I, people, teenagers…
• Hovorové skratky (napr. gonna, wanna, coz) – v školskom opinion essay sa nehodia.
• Opakovanie tých istých slov – skús synonymá: teenagers – young people – adolescents; good – positive – beneficial.
