British and American economy and agriculture

Great Britain is the oldest industrial country in the world. The most important industries are aircraft and car industry, iron and steel industry, engineering, chemical and textil industry and ship building.

It si the home of about 56 milions people. Now about ninety percent inhabitans live in towns and about five percent work in agliculture. The main agricultural products are grains, sugar beet, fruit, and vegetables. British cattle and sheep breeding earn lots of money.

Great Britain consist of three countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

England is an industrial country, rich in coal and iron. There you can find large industrial towns with many factories, which produce various kinds of goods and machines. Birmingham is the centre of the engineering industry, Manchester and Leeds are the centres of the textile industries. Shefffield is famous for its steel and the best coal is found around Newcastle. In the south-eastern part of England you can see fields, meadows and farms with cattle and sheep.

Scotland is known for its fishing, shipbuilding and textile industies. Glasgow is the largest industial city, but Edinburgh is the capital

Wales is rich in coal. There are large coal mines near Cardiff, the capital of Wales

Many rivers are linked by a complex system of canals used for shipping, water supplies or hydroelectric power.

The sea surrounding the land brings a lot of advantages to the country. One of them is fishing and transportation. Important Ports are: Glasgow, Liverpool, Newcastle, Bristol.

London, situated on the river Thames, is not only the capital of Great Britain, but the largest and most important port.

The United States has a capitalist mixed economy.

It is the country with leading economic power with a highly productive agricultural system. It is known with production of soya, wheat, maize, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, forest products, fishes, pig and cattle farming. The U.S. has a leading position in the world’s agricultural production (It produce 60% of the world's agricultural production). In the middle of the States are the Great Plains where mostly wheat and corn are grown. Cotton and tobacco are the traditional crops of the southern states.

Industry plays the leading role in the national economy. The United States is the third largest producer of oil in the world, and its largest consumer. It is the world's number one producer of electrical and nuclear energy, natural gas, aluminium, sulphur, and salt. U.S. main industries are transportation equipments, food products, chemicals, electrical and electronic engineering, construction materials, metal manufacture, textile, etc

The north-east is the most industrial part of the USA. The heavy industries are concentrated around the Great Lakes, where raw materials like coal, iron, oil and copper are found.

The United States is the largest importer of goods and second largest exporter.

The USA is the member of several international organisations like NATO, NAFTA, WTO, OECD, and others.
