What is nature?

• It is a space around us, which helps the mankind survive from its existence
• It offers food, resources of energy – water, wind
• Some natural drugs (plants, flowers, leaves – herbs) to beat illnesses, diseases
• Produces fresh air to breath

Thousands of years ago

Man did not destroy nature, he used only what he needed – cut wood to make a fire and shelters, picked wild berries, killed animals to feed his family.

Later he became a farmer, he needed land to build a house, plant crops, raise domesticated animals, was able to store food and to sell it, he began to exploit nature.

Modern world

• More people, more land to build houses
• New pesticides and fertilizers to plant more crops
• More factories to produce more goods
• New power stations to produce more electricity
• More vehicles to transport goods to more customers
• New technologies, better life but nature is more destroyed

Pollution and secondary effects

• Air, water and land pollution – pesticides, harmful gases, acid rain, factory smoke
• Green-house effect is caused by harmful gases because we burn fossil fuels – coal in power stations to produce electricity
• Holes in the ozone layer are caused by chemicals and harmful light from the Sun reaches the Earth
• Acid rain damages trees, rivers, buildings
• Weather changes bring many natural disasters
• Deforestation
• Extinction - disappearance of animals, some kinds of animals died out and some kinds are protected because only few pieces left

How to stop the destruction

• Unleaded petrol
• To use cars less and go on foot more often
• To use solar energy
• Recycle paper, plastic bottles
• Refuse to accept plastic packaging
• Turn on the lights when you leave a room
• Eat organically produced food
