Do you know them? Can you compare their way of life/lifestyle in general? Would you like to have a similar life? Why? Why not?

Picture 1: Ernest Hemingway – the writer

In the first picture I can see Hemingway – he was an American writer. He died many years ago.

Picture 2: Miro Šatan

In the second Picture I can see Miro Šatan – a hockey player. He is very famous among hockey fans. Many young boys admire him as an idol.

Picture 3: Charlie Chaplin

In the third picture I can see Charlie Chaplin – an American actor of the silent films. He was a star and played in many silent comedies.

Picture 4:

In the picture no. four I can see Madonna – an American pop singer and pop idol. She is very extravagant and she is a real celebrity.

I don´t want to be famous. Celebrities don´t have a private life. There is a lot of gossip in the magazines and news about them.

But on the other hand they are rich, they can travel and buy what they want.

2. Choose one person you admire and talk about him/her. Talk about his/her appearance, qualities, what makes him/her an idol for you, what makes him/her a real human person.

I admire also ordinary people not just celebrities. They are idols for me because they have human qualities which I admire. So my idols are some members of my family, doctors, fire-fighters, soldiers, volunteers, people who work for charities.

For example my neighbour is a fire-fighter. He is about 30. Tall and well built, very strong. He is also brave, polite, tolerant, always in a good mood. He is not vulgar or unfriendly.

He helps people in many dangrerous situations – such as fire or car-accidents.

Modern society is said to make people have a lot of negative qualities. Name them and give some examples of opposite qualities to them.

I can name some negative qualities and opposites:

funny – boring polite – rude bad –tempered – good-tempered

Intolerant- tolerant friendly –unfriendly lazy-diligent

Honest-dishonest mean-generous quit- out-of-control

strict-tolerant selfish-kind patient –impatient

Shy – easy-going stupid-intelligent loud-quiet

Pessimistic – optimisitc jealous-tolerant

A member of my family who I respect most. Say the reasons. In which ways he/she influences your life.

My idol in my family is my sister. She is kind, friendly and always helpful. She helps me with my homework, we share the housework, I can tell her about my fears, loves, problems, everything. If I have some problems with my boyfriend she always gives me advice. We have also a lot of fun together. We go out with friends, to the cinema or hiking. She likes sports and so do I. So we go to the fitness twice a week.

Choose at least one of your literary, film or sports heroes and give some characteristics of him/her. Would you follow his/her way of life? Why?
