Identify the following parts of sports and say which of them you play or would like to play and why.

I can see different kinds of sports in the pictures.

Picture 1 (futbal)

In the first picture I can see football players. Football is a game – it means that two teams play with a ball. I don´t play football and I don´t either watch it on TV.It´s very boring for me.

Picture 2 (lyžiar)

In the second picture there is skiing. It´s a winter sport. In Slovakia we have good conditions for skiing in regions like High and Low Tatras. I go skiing with my family and friends.

Picture 3(stepaerobic v telecvični)

In the next picture I can see girls in a gym doing aerobics. It´s an indoor sport. Nowadays it´s very popular to join a gym. Many people go to fitness centres regularly to do bodybuilding, yoga, pilates, walking, jumping, Zumba etc.

Picture 4 (plážový volleyball)

In the last picture I can see people playing beach volleyball. It´s a summer sport and it´s a ball game. To play volleyball you need a net and a ball and two teams. I play beach volleyball with my friends during our summer holiday.

2 What sports facilities are there in your town/village?

In TN there are many possibilities to do sports. There is a big football stadium, hockey stadium – even two because hockey has a long tradition here – indoor swimming pool, many fitcentres and sporting halls. You can do almost all kinds of indoor and outdoor sports in TN and also summer and winter sports. There are good conditions for winter sports like skiing, skating, snow-boarding and tobogganing nearby. In summer you can go cycling, rollerskating, jogging etc.

What is your attitude to sports?

I like sports very much and I´m a really sporting person. (I´m not a sporting person but I like watching sports on TV).

Sports can be generally divided into indoor and outdoor sports. Indoor sports are e.g. gymnastics, badminton, squash, yoga, bodybuilding, martial arts (judo, karate,) etc. Typical outdoor sports are: running, hiking, swimming, cycling, skiing, skating, ball games like – football, basketball, volleyball, handball etc.

Then we can divide sports into summer and winter. (opäť niektoré vymenovať)

Many people do sports because they need to relax and some of them want to lose weight. Doing sports is very good for children because they move regularly and not just sit in front of TV or PC.

Games are played in teams and usually with a ball. Games are: football, basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, tennis etc. There are two teams and a referee. For sports like tennis and badminton you need a special equipment – a net and a racket.

I like swimmnig. It includes breaststroke, backstroke, crawl and butterfly. In winter I go skiing. I prefer down-hill skiing but I like also cross-country skiing and tobogganing. In TN we have two winter stadiums so I go skating to skating rink with my friends.

My favourite summer sports are cycling and hiking. In Trenčín region we have very good possibilities for these types of sports.

Describe your PE lesson.

We have our PE lesson twice a week. First we must get in our sport suit – T-shirt, shorts and trainers. We have our lockrooms/changing rooms upstairs. Then we must line up and our teacher opens the lesson. He/she tells us what we are going to do. We usually do a short warming up and then we do: gymnastics, volleyball, football, basketball, table tennis etc. If the weather is nice we go out to the tennis courts or we go running. Our school takes part in many kinds of sport competitions so the best of us can join the team and represent our school.

What is the role of fans and how do they behave during matches/games?

In my opinion the role of fans is to support the team during the match by cheering, applauding, screaming etc. But some of them are too noisy and violent, especially football fans called hooligans. Nowadays police must be active very often to protect other fans on the stadium. Hooligans cause many problems and it´s often serious and even fatal, like in GB.

Name some most prestigious sports events. Which ones do you prefer and why?

There are many sports events in different sports disciplines. We know World and European Championships, National hockey or football League, World Cups, International tournaments in tennis – Wimbledon, Davis Cup, Australian Open, Continental Hockey League etc. But the most important sports events for sportsmen and women are Winter and Summer Olympic Games. Sportsmen all over the world train hard to win one of the Olympic medals.

But professional sport is today connected also with money, popularity and some negative phenomena. To be „the best“ is stressful and often lead to overtraining or doping which have a negative effect on their health.

You want to go to Ice – Hockey World Championship in England. You only have the tickets. Say steps you will follow when you prepare for the trip.

I´ll invite my best friend to go with me, because he is a hockey fan. We´ll travel either by bus or plane, it depends on the price of tickets. Of course the plane is better.

I´ll write an e-mail to the hostel to book a double - bed room.

H: Hostel Red Fox, Good Morning. What can I do for you?

G: Good Morning. I´d like to book a double- bed room for four nights.

H: OK. When will you arrive?

G: We´ll arrive on the 24 of October. What´s the price, please?

H: 20 Pounds per night, but if you have ISEC card it´s 15 pounds.
