Look at the pictures. Describe what the people are doing. In what way do the people differ? In what way are they similar?

Picture 1: (pekná baba s tetovaním) In the first picture I can see a young woman with tatoo and piercing.

Picture 2: ( ľudia na disko) In the second picture there are teens at the disco or party they are dancing and having fun.

Picture 3: (mladá slobodná mama s diťaťom) In the third picture I can see a single teen mother. She has got a small child and I think that she lives without a partner

Picture 4:( stena s grafitmi a chalani) In this picture I can see the wall with graffiti which is popular among teens today. There is also something like a gang of young boys. I think they paint the walls in the town at nights.

2 Describe teens (appearance, fashion, hobbies,...)

Teens are young people between 13 and 19. They have idols among celebrities like singers, actors, sportsmen.

They usually wear jeans, T-shirts, snickers or trainers, caps, hoodies. They like tattoo and piercing, girls prefer mini skirts.

As for hobbies – teens like partying. They also like sports such as tennis, football, roller skating (skrátka všetko z témy Free time and hobbies).

What is generation gap?

GG means: children often have different ideas about their future career, different opinions about drugs, alcohol, school, marriage, fashion, music, politics and so on. But parents and children should share interests, be more open, discuss about drugs, sex, having children and family etc.

Talk about the relationship with your parents, what they let you do, want you to do and make you do?

I have quite good relationship with my parents. We get on well together. They let me be out long hours, go to the parties, meet my friends in pubs, spend weekends and holiday without my family.

My parents want me to tidy up on Saturdays (to do hoovering, dishwashing, dusting, washing the clothes, cleaning floors, cleaning windows .....). Sometimes they want me to look after my younger siblings.

My parents make me go to school , find a part-time job, save money, avoid drugs and bad friends.

Talk about what is life like four young people in Slovakia (conditions for living, studying, having children...)

Young people in Slovakia have many problems. The basic problem is unemployment. Better job opportunities are in big cities. But many young people leave Slovakia to find a job abroad (USA, Canada, GB, Ireland). Problems with job lead to crime, addictions such as alcoholism, drug using and gambling.

Sexual actvities often lead to teenage pregnancy, which has a negative effect on the education and personal and professional future.

Young families don´t have money to buy a flat or a house. Some of them borrow money from the bank and then pay the money back for many years.

There are many secondary schools and universities here but they don´t have good reputation. So many young people who are good at languages leave the country to study abroad.

What are the biggest dangers facing today´s youth?

The biggest problems of young people are unemployment that causes crime and addiction on drugs, alcohol and gambling. Then teenage pregnancy, early marriage, they don´t go to school, bad friends and gangs.

Young girls want to be slim like her idols in magazines. So they don´t eat and want to lose weight. They are on slimming diets and suffer from bulimia and anorexy.

3 Simulation

You are in your final year of secondary school. Your parents want you to apply to university, but you have decided to take a year off and go abroad working and travelling,. Talk to your parents, give reasons for your decision.

After my secondary school I´d like to take a year off and I would travel to the USA. I would go with my best friend. We can find a part-time job and travel all over the USA. I´d visit N.Y., Washington, L.A., Miami, San Francisco etc. I would earn some money for study at university and improve my English.
