My family project

In every culture worldwide, the family holds special importance. Family is a group of people consisting of one or two parents and their children. Living in a family is important for every human being. Our parents take care of us from our birth until we grow up, we are loved and even spoiled by our grandparents, uncles and aunts. We are related to our families by blood. However, there are some exceptions. For example Orphans are children whose parents died, theese children grow up in orphanages and foster homes, where they are raised by non-biological parents.

The role of the family is best expresed by the English proverb „In time of test, family is best“. Our family support us when we need it. They are with us at all the important moments of our lives. It is with our families and in our homes where we learn all the skills that we need for life, how to get on with people, how to be tolerant, polite and helpful. We learn how to comunicate, how to be understanding and how to deal with difficult situations trough our discusions with people who we live with.

Family life is different all around the world. In our country many families get together on special occasions and family celebrations, such as weddings, graduation ceremonies, birthday and christenings. A family gathering is an important occasion and most people love it, because they can see their whole family and also can talk to relatives who live in a different part of the country. Our families are known for their hospitality.

In recent years the avarage age for marriage has become much higher than it was in the past. Statistics show that the majority of people get married in their late twenties or early thirties. Nowdays a lot of couples decide to live together without being formally married. This status is called „cohabitation“. In the past there used to be prejudices against people who did not get married before a certain age, women were called as spinsters and men as bachelors. Today they are recognized as modern, independent people who don´t want to be married. On the other hand in the present it is also more common for wives and husbands to get divorced if they are not happy in their marriage. The reasons for getting divorces can be different interests, financial reasons, addiction to alcohol or drugs or gambling.

Being a member of a family means duties such cleaning, doing the washing up, working in the garden and taking out the rubbish. Daughters usually help their mothers in the kitchen and boys usually help their fathers with household repairs.

Having good family relationships is one of the most important things in one´s life. We should to be grateful for having people around us who care for us and support us when we need it.
