Shopping and services

Shopping is an activity that is enjoyed by many people. There are also people who hate shopping and say that it is waste of time. But whether /či/ the people like shopping or not they have to go to a shop, more or less frequently, to buy what they need because shopping is a necessity.

SHOPPING AT THE PAST / AT PRESENT

Nowadays is shopping different like in the past. At the past people used to do shopping more often than these days. They bought mainly staple/hlavné/ foods such as bread, milk, meat, fruit and vegetables in small local shops or later in self-service shops.

These days a lot of families have to a big fridge and a freezer which are full of food so they go shopping less often.

CONSUMER SOCIETY

Many people shop in supermarkets. There are huge variety of products. People often buy things what they don´t need at all. Everybody shops a lot of product which aren ´t necessary.

SUPERMARKET

There are situated in cities and towns. People go to the supermarket to buy mostly food and drinks. It has longer opening hours than small shops. Goods are cheaper but on the other had in every supermarket are the same goods. We spent a lot of our free time there. There are a lot of good from many countries. Salesman isn’t kind. It can be problem too find some goods.

LOKAL SHOP

They usually have shorter opening hours than supermarkets. Shop assistants in small villages and towns usually know their customers. It has narrower assortment and higher prices.

MARKET

Many people prefer to buy the fruit and vegetables or other things at the market. Markets are popular because of their special atmosphere. They are noisy, overcrowded, but people can walk from stall /stánku/ to stall, they can touch and taste products and talk to the salesman.

They can try to bargain/zjednať/ and get a reduce price.

SHOPS AND SERVICES IN MY TOWN

I live in Gelnica. It is small town in Slovaka. There are a lot of shops and services in my town especially at Main street. There is one supermarket which is situated near to town centre and it has own car park. However, there are a lot of local shops too.

In my town there are various services. For example Post office, hairdresser, petrol pump and so on…..

SHOPS IN A TOWN AND SHOPS IN A VILLAGE

Shops in a town

Towns are places where live a lot of people. They have to shops somewhere. In a town we can find a shopping centre, a department store, a supermarket and so on.

Under one roof we can find everything what we need. Goods are cheaper but shops are crowded.

Shops in a village

Village is a place where live less people.In a village we can find local shop, market, retail shop /maloobchod/. Shop assistants are kind and they know customers. Shops in the village have narrower products and higher prices.

MY SHOPPING

Shopping is my favourite activity.I like shopping when I have money and when I can buy something for myself. I go shopping to big shopping centres in Košice because there are a lot of shops with clothes, shoes, and bags. At the end of winter or summer there are big sales. Things in shops are very cheap.

In trademark/značkové/ shops you can buy something only for 40% from normal price. It is very good way to safe your money. I often go shopping with my friends. It is fun and when we have time we go to cinema which is in shopping centre too. I always buy a lot of shoes and clothes; I think that I am dependent /zavislá/ on shopping.

SHOPPING IN MY FAMILY

I live in nuclear family. It has 4 members ( dad, brother, mother, me)

I live in town centre so shops are near. My mother usually shops dairy products, roll and bread……

HUNTING FOR BARGAINS

There are sales in shops. The biggest are summer sale and winter sale. Some people prefer buy goods only in this time. We can safe a lot of money by this way.

SHOPPING AT CHRISTMAS

Christmas is big shopping event for many people.I always do my shopping at the last moment because I never have time to do it in advance/predstihu/. It is a little stressful but I have always managed it well. I love the Christmas atmosphere in the shops. To my fiends and relatives I usually buy these things: clothes, perfumes, toys, books and so on.

RELATIONSHIP- Customer-shop assistant

When we shop we meet shop assistants in a shop. In local shops is shop assistant often owner of shop too. So he or she is kind to customer, talk with him and he know him well. On the other hand in huge shopping malls work usually part-time job assistant and they is not kind.

Best: I have bought new computer

Worst: My new shoes after 1 week destroyed.

MODERN TYPES OF SHOPPNING

Catalogue shopping:

The advantages of buying things from a catalogue that you don’t have to go to the shop, you can do the shopping comfortably from your house, there is a better choice of goods.

The disadvantages are that you can’t try the things on, you can’t touch the things to see what material they are made of, it is more difficult and more expensive to return the goods if you don’t like it (because you have to pay for postage)
I like catalogue shopping because it is comfortable, but I don’t like when I have to return the goods /tovar/ because it is different from that on the picture in the catalogue. 

Credit card:

It is one of the modern ways of paying too. The advantage of credit card is that you don’t need to take money with you, you need only credit card. It is very good when you don’t like take a lot of money with you.

Internet:

It is modern type of shopping which is favorite mainly by young people. You can find in the Internet a page of some online shop and you can find the prizes and you can order some goods or duties which will be delivery to your address.
