Choosing one´s carrer is an important step in everybody´s life. Some children look up to their parents and want to follow in their footsteps. In childhood and even later as teenagers, we do not thing hard about how important such a decision is. We want to be pop singers, actors or actresses or even to sportmen. As we grow up, we become wiser, gain more knowledge about ourselves and the society we live in, and we gradually have an idea about what we would like to do and what job would be appropriate for us.

Teenagers between 16 and 18 make their choice whether to continue their education or go to work. Soon they face a lot of problems finding a job because of lack of qualifications and experience. The job market has only odd jobs or seasonal jobs. Most of them enrol in courses or trainings to get better qualification. Young people with higher or university education have better chance of finding a job. Apart from the proper qualifications, you also need certain qualities or character traits. For example, if you want to become a doctor, you need determination, patience, flexibility and sensitivity. You should be good at dealing with people and be prepared to work long hours - even weekend. On the other hand, a teacher should be friendly, good at dealing with people, good at explaining things and have a strong sense of fairness. A computer analyst must be good at using computers, think logically and be flexible, as well. There are professions in which you need to have a special talent and determination. People like artist, photographers, designers and journalists cannost succeed if they are not talented. You also need a good imagination and lot of creativity.

There are many sourence to help those who want to find a job: advertisements in newpapers, job centres, employment offices. Then one has to write an application form with a curriculum vitae which should contain personal details, work experience, educational background, further practices or skills and abilities. The aim of the application is to get an interview. The interview is very important in the procedure of getting a job. The applicant must be careful not only what he wears but also what and how he communicates to the interviewer. Those applicants who are lucky and get the job become employee and sign a work contract with employer.

There is a part of the population considering being unemployed more benefical to going to work. Unemployement benefits should motivate them to work not to stay out of work.
