New Year in Denmark

Danes New Year celebrated with the friends and they drink alcohol like in other west countries. Every New Year at 6pm they watch on the TV or listen on the radio monarch´s

New Year Speech ended by prayer „Gud beware Denmark“. The New Year begins in Denmark when the bells strike midnight on the Copenhagen Town Hall Clock.

Between the Danish tradition belongs set off noisy fireworks and firecrackers which chase away all the evil spirits and negative energy.

Some Danes celebrate New Year´s by leaping off chairs at midnight because they believe that it will bring good luck and chase away bad luck.

Other unusual New Year´s ritual is that Danes smash plates against their friends´ or neighbor´s front door at the midnight. The breaking plates symbolize good luck.
