South of England

By many, the South of England is considered to be a completely separated region from the rest of the UK. More so, there has never been any agreement on what specific differences are between the South and other regions. The reason obviously, is purely political and geographical. To be fully concrete, Southern England is furthermore divided into South West England, South East England, London, and the East of England, with each of these being full of towns or villages.

In general, when you drive through the counties of South of England, the beautiful cottages which are so typical for the Southerners cannot be unseen. The southern landscape provides us with high white cliffs which are located closely to the coastline.

From these cliffs, the most stunning can be seen in Dover. The large areas of ash and oak woods are reason why, the newest National Park can be found in here. The New Forest is home to vegetation and animal kingdom, many of which are adapted only to the southern climate. What is on the other hand typical for all of England, are stone monuments which rise on quantity thanks to the New Forest National Park where everyday, more and more stone monuments are dug from the underground sanctuary that lies beneath the trees.

Southerners can be proud not only of the natural gifts but also of towns they have built and inherited. Many towns are well known and do not stop to attract thousands of tourists. This may be a reason, why our school trip, took place in one of the towns of the South England. The town’s name was Torquay which is part of unitary authority area of Torbay. The town overflows with friendliness, hospitality and typical British nature.

Even though the local population is constantly being mixed up by foreigners the sense of multiculturalism is not so strong here, so it is very easy to experience a typical day of English man in here. Ironically, what still echoes in my mind when I think of the trip is not Torquay, rather the small town of Exeter, which amazed me by its architecture. It seemed to me that Anglican architecture and English patriotism is literally soaked in the buildings.

The centre of typical Anglican architecture, and also, the centre of almost anything in England, is the capital city, London, which is part of the South. From my personal view, London affords us anything, but why I especially enjoyed my time there, was its ancient core, the City of London. This is a relatively small area, but it has many medieval boundaries. Tower Bridge or The Tower of London can be found here and the more time you spend there, the better your experience will be. In addition, without its suburbs the City of London is considered to be the smallest city in England, but on the complete opposite, thanks to many financial centers it is also one of the most prosperous.

If, you have never experienced the life people lead in the Southern part of England, I highly recommend you to do so. I am sure that I haven’t covered all points which might be interesting and which make the South so special. I suppose to achieve a perfect image and experience it is only needed to travel to this destination and see for yourself.
