History of the USA

The Native American population also referred to as American Indians or Indians lived in hunter-gatherer societies peacefully. The only conflicts they had were those which were fought within the tribal society.

Their lifestyle started to change with the very first European colonists. The first to set foot on the continent of America were the Norse sailors. Soon after that they were forced to leave their newly built settlements because of the brutal conflicts they had with the natives.

The most extensive colonization started at the end of the 15th century when Spanish expedition led by Christopher Columbus reached the coast of America. This was soon followed by colonization, not only by the Spanish, but also by the British sailors. From the very beginning, Spain governed most of the coastal area along with Britain and France. When the western hemisphere was fully under control of European Nations, the colonists wanted to free themselves from the power of their homelands.

The Revolutionary War was a successful rebellion of thirteen British colonies which confederated themselves as United States of America against Great Britain. Originally the fights took place in the colonies, than it suddenly became a world war between Britain France, Netherlands, and Spain. The Revolution was successful and American independence was achieved.

Firstly, it looked as better times where over the horizon, unfortunately no one expected the Civil War to happen. It started when seven Southern slave states formed the Confederate States of America , the other states remained in Union. At last the Confederacy collapsed, slavery was abolished, and the process of restoring unity and rights to the slaves began.

It was not until the 20th century, when America was facing another destructive war. Even though, the position of America in the WWI was mostly formal, at the end of the war they were compelled to join it. On the other hand, they played the role of European main supplier; as a result, American economy rose to the sky.

Attack on Pearl Harbor was the moment, which put Americans so out of temper, that they fully joined the WWII without any hesitation. America had to fight Japan, Germany and Italy. Finally, their last stand took place in France. With the support of Soviet Union and Allies, Germany was literally squeezed to death.

It may seem like a tough time for America, but what was about to come, wasn’t better. The inner struggles, started with segregation. The racial conflicts in America became so serious, that in some states, African-American people were forced to be separated from other races.

Thankfully, Martin Luther King was the one, who broke the ice between the races, stood for the rights of African-American minority and calmed down the tension. Unfortunately, Martin Luther King Junior wasn’t able to see the results of his effort; he was assassinated on one of his trips throughout the country. Nevertheless, his legacy still continues to live on, and as a proof of the success of his actions, is the American president Barack Obama, who happens to be the first Afro-American president in the history of United States.

From my short look into the American history, it can undoubtedly be said, that it wasn’t a walk in a garden. But with the economical crisis, and instability of the world’s superpowers it seems that the times of peace are still nowhere to be seen.
