Travelling and visiting places – English Vocabulary, Phrases & Examples

– in every season of the year the airports, railway stations, seaports and bus stops are full of people travelling for long or short distances. During the time of year spring, summer, autumn or winter, there are so many places for holidays wherever all around the world. Many tourists prefer to visit towns near the sea, like Italia, Spain, France. Those, who like spending their holidays seperated from other people, visit Islands. Those places offer accommodations, such as hotels, reserved houses for it or maybe some places for camping under the open air. On the other hand, there are tourists who dislike sea, so they would like to visit places or towns with surrounding nature, where they can know beauty of nature

Describe the most interesting places to visit in Europe.

Every summer milions of people set off for their holiday destination and spend several days or weeks far from home, relaxing, having fun and learning about different cultures. There are many beautiful places in the world. The most beautiful cities in the world are Prague, Barcelona, Istambul, Jerusalem, London, Paris, Venice and many others. They offer a lot of excitement, possibilities for sightseeing, shopping in the most luxurious shops, going to restaurants, casinos, nigth clubs. The unbounded country of the Alps, Coastal Norway and Tuscany offers a lot of adventure

Compare the traveling in the past and at present.

PAST: Many years ago , people used to travel on horseback or in carriages. It took them several weeks or days to reach their destination. Often their journeys were very dangerous. They travel under threat of being attacked by locals gangs, pirates (during their sea voyages). Their journeys were aimed at finding a job, visiting relatives or delivering a message

PRESENT: People nowadays travel mostly for pleasure. They can spend our holidays in different destinations. We can choose mountain region, holiday by the sea, interesting places, exotic places and much more. We can choose highting or climbing in mountains, in winter skiing and snowboarding. In summer we prefer relaxing by the sea, swimming, some bathing on the beach. For adrenalin enthusiasths there are many adrenalin activities like sphereing, river bugs, cliff jumping, rafting, scuba diving and others. People choose this activities because they feel free and it’s funny

Describe the ideal holiday place.

I think many people have the place of dreams, where they would live for a few days. My place of dreams is very far from my country, from my home and people, who I know. It could be some island. All around would be an ocean with clean water full of many kinds of wonderful fishes and the seas spectre. It would be far from continents and civilisations. The only one journey, how to come on this Island, would be by a boat. This place would be full of fun and relaxation.

Food and drink would be from exotic fruits such as coconut, pineapple, mango, papaya, bananas, and many other specialities. But the best of everything would be the accommodation. Accommodation would be in small wooden house which would be built in the sea but in shallow water. A way how to get into the house would be across the wooden bridge. Rooms in a house would be only two but very cosy. One of the room would be living room with a big Tv, comfortable couch and small coffee table.

The floor would be see-through, so we could see to float fish under the feet. The second room would be a bedroom with a bed and wardrobe. Some evenings, there would be parties on the beach with loud music. So this is my dream, place where I would like to visit. I hope that this dream will come true.

Situation: Read the advertisements and decide which type of holiday do you suggest. Explain why. Finally, say what you would take with you if you want to these places, your reasons.

I like to spend my holiday in hot countries, for example: Greece or Egypt. I prefer going to hot countries because I like to lie on the beach, sunbathe and I love the sea and hot weather. I also like playing beach volleyball. I like lying on the beach and reading a good book or listen to music. But holidays in exotic countries are expensive and so I don’t spend my holiday often in this way.
